THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION:
As you may be aware there has been a change to the forms of identification which will be required to vote in all future elections in Northern Ireland. As a result of the Electoral Fraud Act (2002) all those on the Electoral Register wishing to vote will require specific forms of photographic identification.
The various forms of identification required are: a valid British, Irish or EU Passport, a current Northern Ireland or GB photographic Driving Licence, a Translink Senior Smartpass, or an Electoral Identity Card, issued free of charge by the Electoral Office. The Electoral Commission, Northern Ireland's independent election watchdog, is keen to ensure that everyone entitled to vote at future elections has one of the correct forms of ID. The Commission is aware that a substantial number of people in Northern Ireland do not have the appropriate ID and is embarking on a public awareness campaign to highlight the issue
